The airport in Avignon is situated ten kilometres form Avignon City. It is located in the South east of France and is renowned for being the home of many popes during the fourteenth and fifteenth century.
The airport itself is quite small with basic dining facilities and a small shop. The two main airlines at the airport are Flybe who operate routes to Southampton and Exeter and Jet2.com who fly to Leeds Bradford.
Four car hire Avignon firms are based at the airport. These are in the main terminal close to the baggage area. The rental cars are located just a short walk from the building. Avignon is a beautiful area to explore by road so hiring a car is quite a popular option.
Other transport options include taxis. A fare into Avignon will cost about twenty euro and take around ten minutes. There are no train or bus services from the airport.
The Avignon Festival is held every year and is a major highlight of the local calendar. It began way back in nineteen forty seven and includes various forms of theatre and dance as well as films and music.
Crowds come in their droves to the event with on average over one hundred thousand people attending every year. The festival activities can be split in two with the more conservative entertainment taking place inside the Palace of the Popes and more freestyle events taking place around other parts of Avignon.
