Brive Airport or La Roche Airport is a tiny airport which is situated in the Limousin area of France. It can be found three kilometres from Brive-la-Gaillarde. There is only one regular route currently operating at the airport. It is operated by Airlinair and flies to Paris Orly Airport.
As it is such a small airport there is not much available in terms of facilities. There is just a small shop offering snacks. If there are no taxis waiting outside then you will be able to order one from the front desk. There is also of course the option of a car hire Brive service by booking ahead on this website.
A new airport named Brive-Souillac was supposed to begin operating in 2008 but at the time of writing this financial difficulties have held up the project. It is envisioned that the airport would serve the people of Périgord Noir as well as Brive. Flights serving Lyon, London and Paris were planned in the hope of challenging competing airports at Limoges and Bergerac.
Many holidaymakers from Ireland and the UK have bought property in this area so the idea of regular Ireland/UK routes certainly seems like a good idea. Property sellers would certainly welcome more flights as it would mean higher selling prices for local homes.
Brive is a quiet down with a pretty medieval centre where you will find lovely cafes and friendly bars as well as decent shopping spots. The Labenche museum is worth a visit as is the Pont Cardinal which was used as a crossing point for people arriving from Paris and Toulouse in the past. The city is rugby mad with local side CA Brive a popular draw.
